Founded in 1919 by Late Shri Baburao Thakur and visionary co-founders, our school has been a pillar of quality education in Tilakwadi, Belgaum — run by the Belgaum Jilha Prathmik Shikshana Samiti.
The Belgaum Jilha Prathmik Shikshana Samiti (BJPSS) was formally founded on 1st October 1937, though its activities began in 1919 under the pioneering efforts of Late Shri Baburao Thakur, Late Shri G.V. Herekar, Late Shri Chaturdas Shah and Late Shri Annasaheb Lathe.
The Samiti's mission was to promote child and adult education, improve livelihoods and build community infrastructure. At its peak, it ran 167 primary schools across Marathi, Kannada and Urdu mediums in the region.
Today, the school runs the Ram Kumar Jangra Kindergarten and M.V. Herwadkar English Medium High School, carrying that founding spirit forward in every classroom.

Over a century of education, community and excellence in Belagavi
The BJPSS traces its roots to 1919, when Late Shri Baburao Thakur, alongside Late Shri G.V. Herekar, Late Shri Chaturdas Shah and Late Shri Annasaheb Lathe, set out to transform education and livelihoods across rural Belgaum.
Formally constituted on 1st October 1937, the Samiti's mandate extended beyond classrooms — it promoted adult literacy, new farming methods, road construction and co-operative societies for rural upliftment.
The Samiti once ran 167 primary schools across Marathi, Kannada and Urdu mediums. In 1966, in accordance with Government policy on primary education, these were handed over to the state — and the Samiti refocused its energy on building a flagship institution.
Today, M.V. Herwadkar English Medium High School stands as that legacy — a well-equipped, nurturing school serving over 1,200 students from Std I to Std X at its Tilakwadi campus.
Creating awareness of responsibility and empowering students with knowledge, skill and competence to improve quality of life and build a strong nation.
Providing quality education and empowering future citizens to fulfil individual and social responsibility with maturity.
